Abstract

Pendidikan karakter adalah gerakan internasional yang menciptakan sekolah yang mampu menumbuhkan generasi muda yang jujur, etis, bertanggung jawab, dan peduli dengan membuat model dan mengajar karakter yang baik melalui penekanan pada nilai-nilai universal. Karakter yang baik tidak terbentuk secara otomatis; ini dikembangkan dari waktu ke waktu melalui proses pembelajaran, contoh, dan praktik yang berkelanjutan. Pendidikan karakter yang baik sangat penting sebagai bekal menghadapi peluang dan menghindari ancaman pengaruh negatif melalui media dan sumber eksternal lain saat ini. Peserta didik menghabiskan waktu sekitar 900 jam setahun di sekolah, penting agar sekolah melanjutkan peran proaktif dalam membantu keluarga dan masyarakat dengan mengembangkan lingkungan yang penuh perhatian dan saling menghormati di mana peserta didik belajar nilai-nilai inti dan etis. Pendekatan komprehensif untuk pendidikan karakter digunakan, budaya moral positif dibuat di sekolah-lingkungan sekolah total yang mendukung nilai-nilai yang diajarkan di kelas (Character Education Partnership dalam Cheung, 2010). Tujuan tulisan ini adalah untuk memberikan pedoman bagi unsur-unsur yang dibutuhkan untuk pendidikan karakter yang efektif dan komprehensif, dan menekankan perlunya pendidikan karakter untuk membantu siswa mengembangkan karakter yang baik, yang meliputi mengetahui, peduli, dan bertindak berdasarkan nilai-nilai etika inti seperti rasa hormat, tanggung jawab, kejujuran, keadilan, dan kasih sayang.
