THE INFLUENCE OF PAIRED READING TOWARDS STUDENTS’ READING ABILITY AT MA Al MA’ARUF BANDAR LAMPUNG

This research aimed to know the influence of Paired Reading towards students’ reading ability. This strategy helped the students to get better understanding of the text by pairing and clarifying each other with their friend. The objective of the research was to know the influence of Paired Reading towards students’ ability and whether the average score of students’ reading ability which was taught by using Paired Reading higher than which was taught by using direct instruction.. In this research the writer used experimental method. The population was 155 students in 5 classes. The sample was taken by using Cluster Random Sampling Technique.The writer took all of the classes as the sample of research namely experimental and control class consisted of 62 students. The main technique in measuring students’ reading ability was multiple choice which consisted of 40 items test. Each item has four options a,b,c, d and e. The score each item was 2.5. In calculating the data analysis, the writer used t-test formula. Based on the data analysis, the writer got the result that was accepted. It was obtained that = 4.57, for α= 0.05 was 1.68 and for α=0.01 was 2.39 (4.57 > 1.68 < 2.39). So, was accepted. It meant that there was significant influence of Paired Reading towards students’ readingability at tenth grade of MA Al Ma’aruf Tanggamus in 2021/2022 and the average score of students’ reading ability who learn through Paired Reading strategy higher than who learn through direct instruction (68.94 > 60.16). Based on the result of the research, it is clear that Paired Reading can be used to influence the students’ reading ability.
