IMPROVING STUDENTS READING ABILITY THROUGH PREVIEW, QUESTION, READ, STATE, TEST (PQRST) TECHNIQUE OF SMA PERSADA BANDAR LAMPUNG IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

Abstract

This research was a Classroom Action Research. The object of this research was to explain and help the extent to which the using PQRST Strategy  can  improve  students’  reading  comprehension  at  the  first semester  of  the  tenth  class  of  SMA  Persada  Bandar  Lampung  in  the academic year of 2021/2022. The subjects of this research were 21 students, consisted 10 males and 11 females. This method used to improve student reading comprehension through PQRST Strategy. The research was conducted in two cycles which included plan, action, observe, and reflect. The  data  analysis  research  finding,  the  writer  concludes  that  students’ reading comprehension of the tenth class of SMA Persada Bandar Lampung increased.Based on the result, The improvement of students’ learning activities showed mean score of students’ learning activities in cycle I was 6.32 with the criteria was less active. While, the mean score of students’ learning activities in cycle II was 7.20 with the criteria were quite active. So, the improvement of students’ learning activities the first cycle to the second cycle was 0.88 point.   The improvement of students’ reading comprehension showed mean score in pre-cycle were 49.71, there was only one students' or 4.76% who achieved the KKM target score.The improvement of students’ reading comprehension showed mean score in cycle I was 68.80, there were 10 students who achieved score above Minimum Mastery Criteria or 47.61%, and the mean score of cycle II was 81.19, there were 17 students who achieved score above Minimum Mastery Criteria or 80.95%.

From analyzing data, it could be concluded Classroom Action Research by conducting PQRST Reading strategy improved students’ learning activities and students’ reading comprehension.
