Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the  predict, locate, add and note (PLAN) strategy on students' reading ability. In this study, the author uses an experimental method or known as quantitative descriptive research. The population of this research consisted of 91 students from three classes. The sample of this research was two classes, one class was XI MIPA 1 as experimental class which has 31 students and another class  XI MIPA 2 which has as control class which has 31 students. Samples were taken using the Cluster Random Sampling Technique. The main technique in measuring students' reading ability is multiple choice which consists of 40 questions. Each item has five choices a, b, c, d, and e. The score of each item is 2.5. Based on the data analysis, the control class was 57.85. Then, the result of hypothesis testing found that ttest >ttable for α = 0.05> ttable for α = 0.01= was 3.41> 2.56>2.0. It is true that, the students were taught by means predict, locate, add and note (PLAN). Therefore, predict, locate, add and note (PLAN) strategy gave positive influence towards students’ reading ability at the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 2 Gedong Tataan in the academic year 2021/2022.
