Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze three main issues, namely the reasons for East Timor integration from the perspective of the Indonesian government, the process of East Timor's integration into the Indonesian government, and the impact of East Timor integration. The research method employed is the historical method, which includes the heuristic phase, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. The results of this study suggest that if Indonesia is interested in curbing the influence of communism in Asia, the people of East Timor are willing to join Indonesia, thus ending colonialism and social conflict in East Timor and starting the process of integration. The negative impact of the integration has caused many loss of life and property to the East Timorese people, while the positive impact has greatly cultivated the East Timorese people's problem-seeking and problem-solving mindset.
